Vicki Lewis McGarvey
Vicki Lewis McGarvey is the Vice Provost for University College. In this role she oversees all University College units, including the Ambler Campus, Temple University Center City, the Fort Washington Center, Temple University Harrisburg, Extension Services, Distance/Online Learning, and university coordination of summer programming. She serves as Temple ’s liaison for Pennsylvania Act 48 programming and as its representative to the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities. Dr. McGarvey is also a liaison with the Office of the President for specific projects.
Dr. McGarvey holds a BA in natural sciences and an MBA from the Johns Hopkins University and an EdD in higher education administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
Most recently Dr. McGarvey served as Associate Vice President for Academic and Faculty Affairs in the Executive Office of the President from 2006 to 2010. In this role she played a leading role in planning and evaluating academic programs; monitoring accreditation activities; collaborating with administrative units; and advising the President on issues pertaining to faculty recruitment, appointment, promotion and tenure. She previously worked in the Office of the Provost as an associate vice provost where she served as staff to the Council of Deans, coordinated the approval of academic programs for the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees and managed the recruitment of new deans.
Prior to joining Temple University in 2001, Dr. McGarvey held positions in scientific, financial and research administration in the medical schools at the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pennsylvania. She also served as the administrative and financial officer for University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Work.
