Joanne Epps assumed the deanship of the Beasley School of Law on July 1, 2008. Dr. Epps has been on the faculty at Temple Law School since 1985, and served as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 1989-2008.   

Her involvement in the greater community includes being an officer of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation, serving on the Board of Directors of the Defender Association of Philadelphia and being an active member of several other professional organizations.  She is a former member of the Board of Directors of Women’s Way.   

In addition to teaching at Temple, Dean Epps has taught in China, in Japan, at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and twice in a program for Sudanese Lawyers working for victims of the Darfur crisis.   

Awards she has won include the Doris May Harris Image Award from the National Bar Association’s Women Lawyers Division, the Sandra O'Connor Award from the Philadelphia Bar Association, and the Women of Distinction Award from the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia. She was one of three winners of the 2002 Women Making History Award presented by the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners, and last June was honored as one of the 2008 Women of the Year by the Legal Intelligencer and the Pennsylvania Law Weekly. Also, Dean Epps is proud to be a 2009 Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania Take the Lead Award recipient.   

Dean Epps earned her JD from Yale University and her BA from Trinity College.
