Financial Support

Assistantships and fellowships, funded by Temple University or various external agencies, are available for full-time students. These forms of support include both a tuition waiver and a stipend. The specific type of aid offered to a particular student will depend upon the student's qualifications and his or her program of study. Applicants to the Ph.D. program are eligible for:


These are awarded for two years, normally the first and fourth years of study. All fellowships include tuition remission. The Fellowships may continue for an additional year should students progress satisfactorily and be recommended for such by the chairpersons of their program.


In addition to the fellowships mentioned above, there are numerous graduate assistantship positions available. The usual work load of a graduate assistant is the equivalent of 20 hours per week devoted to either teaching or research duties relevant to the student's graduate training. Graduate assistants receive a nine-month stipend totalling $14,535. and a full tuition scholarship during the academic year. Health insurance benefits are also included. Additional financial support is usually available for students wishing to participate in research projects or teaching during the summer months.


APPLICATION DEADLINE

Early application is encouraged. The application deadline for admission for the Fall semester is July 15; for the Spring semester it is November 15. Students applying from outside the United States should allow sufficient time for visa processing, etc. For those wishing to be considered for University Fellowships, the deadline is February 15th. All new students are required to be on campus by the third week of August for the Fall semester and the first week of January for the Spring semester.
