Cosmology in this Millenium
Professor Katherine Freese
Over the past decade, age-old questions about the Universe have been answered. The basic picture of the Hot Big Bang is right, the shape of the Universe has been discovered, the age of the Universe is known, and the total amount of energy density has been determined. The discovery of these quantities will be discussed in this talk. Yet, many questions remain unanswered and will be discussed as well. What is the content of the Universe? Only 4% is ordinary atomic matter, while the rest is unknown dark matter and dark energy. These puzzles will be described, and approaches to finding the solutions discussed.
