Melanie Blanding

WELCOME to an online portfolio of work for Melanie Blanding, a photojournalist from Roanoke, Virginia. This website will focus mostly on her body of work from her summer spent in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where she worked on a photostory on women who have been victims of violence and rape.

Melanie Blanding graduated with a BA in photojournalism and a minor in cultural anthropology from Western Kentucky University in May 2006. Shortly before graduation, Melanie was awarded the Alexia Foundation student grant for a photographic story proposal, which led to her work in the Democratic Republic of Congo during the summer of 2006. Melanie recognizes the significant influence that visuals have in modern American culture and hopes that her photographs will be used to have a positive impact on the lives of those she documents. This website is part of Temple University's Photojournalism program by way of the Photo Seminar class. In the Spring of 2008, we are responsible to present work on a living photographer of choice. This consists of samples of the photographers' work along with a biography. All photographs are taken by Melanie Blanding and used with permission. Copyrights belong to Melanie Blanding.
