Known around the world as a rock and roll sensation that has inspired young musicians, Bryan Adams decided to hang up his guitar for the time being and pursue a new art form, photography. Born in Kingston, Ontario on November 5,1959, Bryan was the son of a Canadian diplomat. Moving throughout Europe and the Middle East and attending British and American schools has molded the artist. While living in Vancouver at the age fourteen Bryan began to get bored with the dull everyday life of North American schools. An earlier report card read “Bryan is a very attentive student; when he attends". It was playing his guitar that allowed him to escape form the boredom and strikes a creative chord within.
By the age 20 Bryan had signed a contract with A&M Records in 1979, Adams spent the early part of the '80s touring North America. Spending upwards of 250 days a year on the road. His songs have reached #1 all over the world, in Britain he holds the record for the longest running #1 single with his song (Everything I Do) I Do it For You. In the U.S.A he has had four number one hits and in his home country of Canada has been awarded the Order of Canada. Though Bryan Adams has never been that to embrace the rock and roll lifestyle that inflates ones ego to monstrous proportions. Throughout his numerous tours and recordings he has donated money to causes such as The Prince's Trust, Live Aid, The Concert for Freedom for Nelson Mandela, Greenpeace, Amnesty International, NetAid/London.
Most recently Bryan Adams has taken his interest in photography and breast cancer to a worldwide level. In 1998, Bryan shot Linda Evangelista to promote a concert the two were cosponsoring to raise money for a breast cancer clinic in St. Catharines, Ontario. Bryan had just returned from recording music for a benefit CD to aid breast cancer. This picture of Evangelista appeared in Flare Magazine and after seeing the photo with the publication approached the editors about continuing the series in a book.
Soon after getting the ok to continue his work he found out that a friend had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Donna would appear on the cover and final page of the book, which was entitled, Made In Canada. Donna was in final stages of extreme chemotherapy and radiation treatments when she agreed to be photographed for the book. Many celebrities and public figures appeared in the book along with Donna to promote research. This series of black and white photographs contained Canadian women including Celine Dion, Alanis Morrisette, Joni Mitchell and many others. All royalties from this book went to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Donna soon passed away at the age of 38. The photographs that are shown in the gallery of this WebPages are those of Made in Canada.
Bryan Adams has continued to follow his new found love in photography with exhibits of his work that appeared in Made in Canada along with new works that are included in a book entitled Haven Trust which include portraitures of models and celebrates in England. All of which, all profits are donated to research for breast cancer and other disease research centers. Bryan Adams has become not only a crusader for his art form but has become a crusader for the human character.
