The Russian Navy participated in BALTOPS exercises for the second time. The Russian Navy Ship (RNS) Bespokoiny (pictured above) took part along with the four other Baltic states to make this one of the "most sucessful BALTOPS yet" according to Rear Admiral Joseph S. Mobley, Commander Carrier Group Two.
While moored in Aarhus, Denmark, Russian and American officers had the opportunity to visit each others ships (below right). Naval Academy Midshipman, Skip Mueller, acted as translator for the American officers and said the "Russian officers were impressed with their visit aboard the USS Clark."
The Bespokoiny is a Sovremennyy class Destroyer. The Russians currently have 21 in their fleet and construction continues
