The Navy of the Republic of Poland provided four MCMs, two Corvettes, one submarine, eight MIG-21 BIS FISHBED, and two Anaconda helicopters. The Polish Foxtrot submarine ORP Wilk (P/N 292) (above left) participated in exercises during BALTOPS 95. This was the first time a former Warsaw Pact submarine took part.
The Wilk, a Foxtrot type 641, was purchased from the former Soviet Union. It is a Diesel-electric powered submarine, 91.3 meters in length, has a diving depth of 250 meters and a speed of 16 knots surfaced and 15 knots submerged.
BALTOPS gave sailors the opportunity to spend some time aboard other country's vessels. Polish submariners spent a day aboard the USS Clark (above right) where they were treated to a tour and lunch by the ship's Captain, Commander Bruce Cuppett. U. S. Sailors had the same opportunity to spend time aboard the submarine Wilk.
The Polish MCM ORP Mewa (P/N-623), (pictured below) a minesweeper, took part in the mine countermeasures exercises.
