Phi Sigma Pi was brought to Temple University in late 1990 by Temple law student Greg Armstrong. As an undergraduate at Millersville University, Greg was an active member of the Sigma Chapter of Phi Sigma Pi. He was impressed with the Millersville chapter and wanted Temple to have a chapter as well. Through much hard work, Greg persuaded the national office to establish this chapter.
National chapter representatives came to Temple on November 18, 1990 to introduce students to Phi Sigma Pi. Over 150 students attended this first meeting. Soon after, on December 2, 1990, the first charter class of the Alpha Lambda chapter of Phi Sigma Pi was inducted.
Within only a few short months, the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Phi Sigma Pi became a vibrant and noticeable addition to the Temple University community. Since its founding, our chapter has organized academic lectures, sponsored university-wide canned food drives, brought the AIDS quilt to Temple's campus, worked with Habitat for Humanity, sponsored participants in numerous AIDS and research walks/runs, volunteered at soup kitchens, shelters, and hospitals-- the service done for Temple and the community continues each year. The Alpha Lambda chapter has evolved into a diverse brotherhood of people who care about what they can do both for themselves and for others. With the tripod as its foundation, Phi Sigma Pi at Temple University continues to thrive and grow stronger and better each passing semester.
Alpha Lambda has benefited greatly from its leaders.
