Elora J. Weringer, Ph.D. Is a native of Southern California and received a Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology from the School of Medicine, University of Southern California. She was a National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Fellow in Experimental Pathology and Medicine at the School of Medicine, University of California Irvine. Her research career includes a NIH funded Assistant Professor of Pathology in the Department of Pathology, University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Worcester and as a Senior Research Investigator for Pfizer Inc. Her area of research interest is the immunology of transplantation and autoimmune Diabetes Mellitus. In addition to invited lectureships to many national and international scientific federations and symposiums, Dr. Weringer has contributed to three patents in immunosuppressive therapies for transplant rejection and is the author of numerous peer-reviewed scientific reports, book chapters, and reviews.
Her interest in Bioethics was furthered by an academic leave of absence from Pfizer Inc for advanced studies in Philosophy and Bioethics in The School of Philosophy, The Catholic University of America, The Kennedy Institute of Ethics and The Center for Clinical Bioethics, Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. During that year, she also continued studies in Moral Philosophy at Providence College and was awarded an Academic Grant in Bioethics from Providence College to conduct research in metaphysics in science at the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.
She currently holds the position of Associate Director, Science Policy and Public Affairs, Pfizer Global Research & Development, New London, CT, and is a member of Pfizer’s internal Pediatric Advisory Council. The function of this advisory body is to assist in the interpretation and observance of laws and regulations pertaining to pediatrics and to monitor and influence the regulatory environment with respect to pediatrics for development of drug products for children.
She is also a member of the CIOMS (Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences, World Health Organization) Pharmacogenomics Working Group and the Bioethics Subcommittee IFPMA in Geneva.
