Daniel J. Canney, RPh, PhD

Principles of Drug Action and Pharmacokinetics

An Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry, Department of Pharmaceutical Science, Temple University School of Pharmacy, Daniel Canney’s research interests include structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies involving novel ligands for muscarinic and nicotinic receptor subtypes. He has recently become interested in SAR studies involving ligands for retinoic acid receptor subtypes. After receiving his PhD in medicinal chemistry in 1986, he became a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Pharmacology and Molecular Biology at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis. He then joined the University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Radiology (Section of Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry) as a research assistant professor, working on the development of organ and receptor-specific imaging agents for use in SPECT imaging studies. Dr. Canney continues to collaborate with scientists in the pharmaceutical industry and academia to investigate the relationship between ligand structure and biological activity.
