What is the GRE?
The GRE® general test measures critical thinking, analytical writing, verbal and quantitative reasoning skills acquired over a long period of time that are not related to any specific field of study. General test scores are used by graduate admissions departments to supplement undergraduate records and other qualifications for graduate study. The scores provide common measures to compare qualifications of applicants and aid in the evaluation of grades and recommendations.
Who administers the test?
Two companies administer GRE testing throughout the United States.

Why does Temple University require GREs?
Temple University is ranked as a Carnegie Research I Institution. As such, certain standards of scholarship are required for admission into all of its graduate programs.
How do you prepare?
Free GRE test preparation materials are available through ETS for both the computer and paper-based general GRE test. You must visit the ETS website and register for the test to receive these materials. Other helpful test preparation materials, including practice tests and diagnostic services, are also available for a modest fee. GRE Prep workshops are run throughout the US at universities and educational testing companies. Temple University Fort Washington sponsors GRE prep workshops throughout the year (for information, call 267.468.8501). In addition, many bookstores carry excellent self-study guides that prepare you for the kinds of questions that appear on the test.
How do you register to take the test?
You must schedule an appointment to take the GRE through ETS or Thomson Prometric. Tests are administered monthly at specific tests sites in every US state, Canada, and internationally.
How much does the test cost?
The current fee for the GRE in the US is $115. Rates for international tests vary per country. There is a $40 test reschedule fee. Standby testing is available on the paper-based test only for a fee of $35.
How do you submit my scores to the QA/RA program?
You must advise ETS to submit your GRE tests scores electronically to Temple using university code 2906. Please make sure to use that code, so your test scores are received by the QA/RA Admissions Office and are not directed to a wrong department.
Can you retake the test is my scores are unacceptable?
The Office of Graduate Studies at the School of Pharmacy will advise you if you need to retake the GRE to be considered for admission into the QA/RA MS program. You are permitted to retake the GRE five times during a given calendar year, but no more than once a month.
