Message from Magid Abou-Gharbia, Ph.D, FRSC Associate Dean for Research
Welcome to the Temple University, School of Pharmacy (TUSP) Research web site. We hope that you find the information on our web site useful and interesting, whether you are a prospective faculty, visiting scholar, graduate student, alumnus, or colleague in research and teaching. As an organization, we are positioned to continue to provide leadership in our educational mission, while also pursuing innovative research. In conjunction with both of these efforts, we will be training future researchers in pharmaceutical sciences, drug discovery and development, basic preclinical and translational research.
In recent years, we have seen tremendous growth in our research enterprise. A number of talented and accomplished researchers have joined our faculty & staff. In addition we have established several centers of excellence for scientific study across a wide range of disciplines. Most recently, in 2010, Temple University launched the Temple University Drug Discovery Initiative which has resulted in a substantial expansion in the number of faculty and our research facilities embedded within the School of Pharmacy.
Faculty and research staff efforts at the School of Pharmacy are focused on multidisciplinary approaches to complex scientific problems associated with a number of important disease states. These efforts are support by four centers of excellence, which include:
- Moulder Center For Drug Discovery Research
- Jayne Haines Center For pharmacogenomics and Drug Safety
- cGMP Facility
- In Vitro ADME and Pharmacokinetics Laboratory
Funding for our research has been generously provided by several foundations, state funded grants, federally funded grants, contract research programs, and Temple University research awards. In addition, members of our faculty have been recognized by outside scientific organizations as recipients of numerous honors, awards, (AACP, Whalen Award) and invited lectureships. They also routinely serve as members of NIH study section review teams and on the scientific advisory boards of several scientific and professional organizations. Graduate, professional, and undergraduate research efforts at the School of Pharmacy are highlighted in our annual Research Recognition Day event. Recent accomplishments and host of other activities are summarized in this year School's Annual Report."
