Students win 31-30 in Annual
Student Vs. Faculty Basketball Game
On
Monday, March 28, 2005 the Students and Faculty of Temple University
School of Pharmacy squared off at the 4th Annual Student-Faculty
Basketball Game organized by the Rho Chi Honor Society. The Students
were undefeated coming into the match. The battle ensued over two
20-minute halves with a running clock.
The Faculty came out strong and captured the lead shortly into the
first-half. Their lead climbed to six points after a PY2 student (who
will remain nameless) scored a basket for the Faculty. With 9 minutes to
go in the first half, Faculty led 11 to 5. With a minute left in the
first half, Dr. Rawls swished a three point shot to secure a 7-point
lead for the Faculty at half-time (Half-time Score: Faculty-19;
Students-
15).
A raffle drawing and shooting contest entertained the large crowd of
spectators during half-time.
Early in the second-half Dr. Ruchalski’s theatrics drew an offensive
foul, but the Students continued to fight and cut the Faculty’s lead to
four. Six minutes into the second-half the Students took over the lead
with a pair of lay-ups. The score was now 19-23. The Faculty had not yet
scored in the second half. Then, it was Dr. Rawls with another three-
pointer and a jump-shot in the face of strong defense that
enabled the Faculty to regain a one-point lead. Next, a bizarre series
of events stemming from a loose-ball scramble at mid-court allowed Dr.
Wodlinger to score two for the Faculty (off a pass from the referee!).
The Students continued to get the job done and Denise Wolf shot 2 out of
3 from the foul line. The Students were up 29 to 28 with three minutes
left in the game. A technical foul was called against the Students, but
the Faculty couldn’t sink the foul shots. Michael McGraw, scored a
lay-up giving the Faculty a one-point lead with 1:18 left on the clock,
but Brian Esterly answered with a lay-up for the Students. Dr. Ruchalski
stole the ball as the clock ran down…but the Faculty just ran out
of breath (out of time, rather) and the final score was 31- 30. The
students remain undefeated! Be sure to join us next year for a
re-match!!
Many thanks to the supportive spectators and the participants in the
game. Special thanks to SFC personnel and the Rho Chi Officers for
organizing this fantastic event!
