The National Council of State Pharmacy Association Executives
(NCSPAE) presented Temple School of Pharmacy students with an
award for their participation in the Medicare Part D Outreach
Challenge and ranked them in the top 20 of the Pennsylvania
participating schools.
This award was part of the comprehensive campaign launched last
September by the Pennsylvania Pharmacist Association, together
with the NCSPAE and the Medicare Rx Education Network. Created
to actively involve pharmacy students in Medicare Part D
Outreach programs, this award recognized student efforts to
educate individuals that qualify for the Medicare Prescription
Drug Coverage.
TUSP students created a Medicare Part D counseling poster that
was designed to not only educate healthcare providers who
counsel Medicare beneficiaries but the caregivers as well. The
poster focused on the steps needed when selecting a Medicare
Part D Plan. The Pharmacy students also compiled information
that simplified key components of the program.
The students also made several presentations to Medicare
beneficiaries throughout the Temple campuses. At each site, they
handed out versions of the poster, as well as packets for the
beneficiaries with information on the program. Additionally they
distributed lists of plans available in Pennsylvania, New Jersey
and Delaware.
