For the third year in a row, Temple University
School of Pharmacy has won the HRSA/PSSC award, announced at the
annual APhA meeting in Atlanta this past March.
The HRSA/PSSC award is given to ten schools each year for their
involvement and efforts to help an organization that is
participating in the 340B program. The 340B program allows
certain qualified organizations and entities to get reduced
prices on pharmaceuticals.
Temple Pharmacy due to the innovative idea of student, Laura
Gilbert-Hayn has been working in collaboration with Prevention
Point Philadelphia (PPP), a non-profit and public health
organization that is dedicated to protect the welfare and health
of drug abusers and sex workers. PPP with its efforts and with
the help and ideas from members of the student chapter of
APhA-ASP at Temple Pharmacy as well as others is trying to
reduce the risks that are associated with the practices amongst
these populations by offering safe and alternative measures such
as needle exchange program, counseling services, etc.
As part of the requirement to receive the HRSA/PSSC award, a
poster reflecting the accomplishments and results of the
previous year must be submitted by student chapters of
APhA-ASP.The winning schools are awarded a plaque and $2000 to
be used to continue supporting their respective projects.
Once again, congratulations to those students who are making
Prevention Point Philadelphia a success.
