Many thanks to everyone who responded with support
to the Al Robinson Portrait Fund. Recently Al's portrait was
unveiled and now hangs in Laboratory 415.

Alphonso Robinson, the school’s laboratory coordinator for the
past 38 years retired this past June. Al has worked under four
Presidents (Anderson, Wachman, Liacouras and Adamany), four
Deans (Martin, McEvilla, Van Titus and Doukas), and three acting
Deans (Kostenbauder, Gable and Zanowiak).
His initial responsibility was in the chemistry labs where he
purchased and inventoried all materials and glassware. That job
extended to all faculty labs and also included monitoring exams,
setting up student lab demonstrations, locker assignments, and
scheduling teaching assistants.
Throughout his years at the Pharmacy School, Al became very
involved in the social life of the fraternities and sororities
as a full-fledged Brother of Phi Delta Chi and as Coach for the
School’s basketball team. Outside of Temple, Alphonso was very
active in community activities serving as a mentor for
neighborhood youth groups.
He forged strong ties with many of the students, faculty and
staff over the years and will leave a large void in the school’s
daily life. Al intends to travel to warm destinations to enjoy
his leisure. We wish Al a long and pleasant retirement and hope
that he comes back to visit the School often.
