APhA 2006 National Meeting in San Francisco |

During the meeting, Temple’s student chapter was recognized by APhA for outstanding achievement in Pharmacy including 1 regional and 1 national award. 1: Region 2 winners: Temple was awarded The Outstanding Achievement Award for Operation Diabetes. a. Pharmacy students developed and displayed a billboard on a major thoroughfare in the city of Philadelphia viewed by approximately 76,000 individuals. b. Pharmacy students participated in the Juvenile Diabetes Walk. c. Pharmacy students held numerous diabetes screening days in community pharmacies and hospital healthfairs. 2. National winners: Temple was awarded one of six $2000.00 Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) grants to actively promote a Needle Exchange Program. This is the second year in a row that Temple has one this prestigious award. a. Students will promote the importance of decreasing blood borne diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis at Prevention Point in Philadelphia through a needle exchange program. b. The grant is a 304B designed to help underserved populations in Philadelphia
