Phi Lambda Sigma will be hosting a blood drive Thursday April 18, 2013 at the SFC 1st Floor Lobby from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Please consider a donation. Every 2 seconds someone in then United States is in need of blood and the blood that is used for emergencies is already on the shelves before the event has even occurred. Think about everyone that needs blood. One donation can save up to three lives. Be your own hero. Donate blood!
All blood types are needed! Donors with type O negative, O positive, A negative or B negative are especially encouraged to give at this time. Type O negative is the universal blood type and can be transfused to any patient. This blood type is often used in emergency situations when doctors do not have time to check a patient's blood type before transfusion.
You can help the Red Cross overcome the shortage of blood donations by doing more than giving a blood donation. Help spread the word about the need and invite family and friends to donate blood. Let your friends and family know you're a blood donor - like us on Facebook and Tweet when you donate blood! When you spread the word, it helps rebuild the blood supply and ensure patients have the blood products they need.
An emergency appeal early in the summer helped to temporarily stop the decrease in blood donations, but blood donations this summer for the American Red Cross were at the lowest they have been in 15 years. Anyone who gave blood at the start of summer may be eligible to donate again as summer comes to a close. Your donation of blood helps to ensure that there is blood available for the treatment of cancer patients, people with blood disorders, trauma victims, premature babies and others who face life-threatening illnesses.
