The School of Pharmacy announces the first cohort of Renzulli Scholars

The Renzulli Scholarship Committee of The School of Pharmacy has chosen six highly qualified and deserving Fourth Professional Year pharmacy students to be the first group selected as Renzulli Scholars, named after pharmacy alumnus and benefactor, Michael Renzulli, '63.

The students are:

•Narin Ahmed

•Elisa Cocchiarella

•Lauren Long

•Kristin Reigle

•Kimberley Toussaint

•Michael Zielinski

The first pledge installment of $50,000 was distributed in varying amounts among the six Renzulli Scholars who were selected after being ranked by the committee who reviewed award criteria that included: outstanding leadership abilities; good academic standing; personal commitment, and scientific and/or clinical advancement. Each Renzulli Scholar has been identified as having shown entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to motivate, inspire, and mentor others. Michael Renzulli often attributes his success with being able to assemble a team of ordinary people to do extraordinary things, and he looks to the School of Pharmacy Renzulli Scholars to be an extraordinary group of students who have, and will, accomplish extraordinary things.

Michael Renzulli, '63 pledged a record $1 million Scholarship Gift and Challenge Grant to create the Renzulli Family Scholarship Fund. Michael's father Dante graduated in 1939 and his grandfather Michele graduated in 1918. Michael Renzulli, former president and CEO, Sally Beauty Company, the largest distributor of professional beauty supplies in the world, has been a leader and entrepreneur throughout his life. He first practiced pharmacy in his family's store before acquiring a small and failing company that he managed to turn into the world leader.

Never forgetting his pharmacy roots, Michael Renzulli said, "The Renzulli family and Temple School of Pharmacy go back close to 100 years. Our family has benefitted greatly from the education we received from this fine institution. I will always appreciate the support I received from the faculty and fellow classmates and want all deserving pharmacy students to be able to enjoy this valuable experience and education."

Dean Peter Doukas noted that in creating the Renzulli Family Scholarship Fund, Michael Renzulli echoes Temple University founder Russell H. Conwell's vision to provide educational opportunity to all students regardless of their economic station in life.

The Renzulli Scholarship assists pharmacy students in their third of fourth professional year when financial aid and student loan resources have been exhausted and private loans are often needed. Faculty, staff and Administration can nominate a student to the Renzulli Scholarship Committee for consideration. Students must exhibit leadership and good academic standing and have a financial need to be considered.
