The Fort Defiance Indian
Hospital is seeking motivated and hard working pharmacists to
join our team.
Fort
Defiance Indian Hospital is a state of the art rural hospital
that opened in August 2002. This pristine 245,000 square foot
facility is located in the beautiful Northeastern Arizona, about
8 miles north of Window Rock (the capital of the Navajo Nation),
and 30 miles west of Gallup, New Mexico.
Fort Defiance Indian
Hospital boasts a 24/7 Level 2 Emergency Room, and is licensed
for 56 inpatient beds. These include: an Intensive Care Unit, a
Medical-Surgical Unit, a Pediatric Ward, an OB/GYN Ward, and an
inpatient Adolescent Psychiatric Care Unit. Housing is easily
obtainable in the new 193-unit government housing area directly
adjacent to the hospital, and the public elementary, middle
school and high school are all within ½ mile radius. The
surroundings and temperate high-desert climate are ideal for
outside activities such as hiking, biking, rock climbing,
horseback riding, etc. In addition, Fort Defiance is an ideal
central location, as the mountains of Colorado and the valley of
Phoenix are both just a few short hours away.
Our inpatient and
outpatient pharmacies consist of the latest in pharmaceutical
care programs and technologies. We have pharmacist managed
programs in the following areas: anticoagulation,
dialysis/renal transplant, geriatrics, diabetes education,
medication error management (WebCidient), and medication
management and reconciliation, and are open to the idea of
adding more. Our entire hospital is on a complete electronic
health record system with physician order entry, which allows
all information, including visit notes and laboratory data, to
be easily accessible to users. This allows for improved
efficiency and efficacy in both inpatient and outpatient patient
care. Our pharmacists have more time for clinical patient care
and decision-making, rather than time spent requesting charts.
This works as follows: as soon as a provider has signed an
order a working copy is printed in pharmacy for verification,
and the pharmacist can begin processing the order immediately,
with the entire chart at his/her fingertips. On the ambulatory
side, this decreases waiting time, while increasing the time the
pharmacist has to spend counseling each patient. Both
contribute immensely to patient satisfaction, fostering
confidence in our facility, which thereby increases appointment
and medication compliance, and, ultimately, overall quality of
life. On the inpatient side, our pharmacists use this
additional time to be more actively involved in patient therapy,
by participating in daily multidisciplinary rounds and
researching various medication questions. Also for our
inpatients, we have instituted a Bar Code Medication
Administration (BCMA), the only system of its kind in the entire
Indian Health Service. This system enforces a double-check on
medication administration, by using barcode scanners to identify
first the patient and then the medication, coupled with an
electronic medication administration record or eMAR. It is
clear to see that Fort Defiance Indian Hospital is at the
forefront of medication technology, to better care for our
patients, which we hold in the highest regard.
Are you motivated? Do you
have a strong commitment to improve patient care? Do you want
the freedom to establish a pharmacist managed clinic? If you
answered yes to any of these questions, please contact us. |
