Philosophy

As a lab director and life-long academic I’ve experienced many research environments [check out my biosketch], and the one thing that is valued everywhere is quality science. With the latter goal in mind, potential graduate students or postdocs can look forward to long frustrating hours at the bench. Well, don’t leave just yet. More accurately, the lab experience is challenging, and demanding, but I believe, very rewarding. One of my goals as lab director and mentor is to place all lab members in a supportive dynamic situation, one in which you’re not distracted from your primary objectives of research excellence.

My expectations are high. I seek individuals who are inquisitive, independent, and ingenious, not those with the “super-tech” mentality. Don’t get me wrong, strong technical skills are valued, but they’ll never replace good “clean” thinkin’. The most fruitful projects are those motivated by a collaborative spirit.
