Biosketch
Dr. Childers received his BS in Chemistry from Vanderbilt University and his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Georgia. Upon completion of his doctoral program Dr. Childers was awarded a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at The Johns Hopkins University. In 1987 he joined Wyeth Research in Princeton, New Jersey where, over a period of 23 years, he pursued drug discovery, design and lead-optimization through medicinal chemistry in a series of positions of increasing levels of responsibility culminating in Group Leader & Principal Research Scientist IV. He has co-authored more than 100 research publications, patents, and poster presentations in organic synthesis and drug design, especially in the areas of stroke, neurodegenerative diseases, epilepsy, Alzheimer's Disease, pain, and psychotherapeutic agents, and has been a principal in the development of several compounds that have moved into clinical trials.
