Giving To Scholarship Funds

SCHOLARSHIPS

Seventy-five percent of Pharmacy students receive some type of financial aid or scholarship support.  The following funds have been established by alumni and the Alumni Association to assist Pharmacy students with their financial needs.

Arnoff Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 2004 by the Arnoffs, Judith, PHM ’68, SBM ’82 and Lawrence, CLA ’65.  This Fund provides scholarships for incoming or current students who exhibit academic excellence.

Aaron and Julia Brenner Fund was established in 1992 by Bernard Brenner, PHM ’51, in memory of his aunt and uncle. It provides scholarships for students with financial need.

Bernard and Edith Brenner Scholarship Fund was established in 2002 by Edith and Bernard Brenner, PHM ’51, to support students who have achieved academic excellence.

Delaware Pharmaceutical Society Auxiliary Scholarship Fund was received in 2001 from the Delaware Pharmaceutical Society Auxiliary to provide scholarships with preference given to Delaware residents. 

Ronald Gautieri Memorial Fund was established in 1995 in memory of Ronald Gautieri, PHM ’57, CLA ’60, a much-loved scholar, faculty member and director of graduate education.  It assists graduate students.

Jacob M. Gelenberg Scholarship Fund was establish in 1990 by Mae Gelenberg in memory of Jacob M. Gelenberg, PHM  ’25,  to provide academic achievement and financial need scholarships.

Howard S. Greenberg Scholarship Fund was established in 1994 by family, friends and employees of Howard Greenberg, PHM ’47, to provide academic achievement and financial need scholarships. 

Ralph J. Ippoliti Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1995 in memory of Ralph J. Ippoliti, PHM ’66, a well-respected leader in the pharmacy profession.  It  provides financial need scholarships for first-year students.

David E. Mann, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 by Scott Mann, in memory of his father, a long-time faculty member who inspired countless students during his tenure at the School of Pharmacy.  It provides scholarships for academically talented incoming students.  

Robert Peyakovich Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 1998 by friends and coworkers of Robert Peyakovich, PHM ’61, in honor of his retirement.  It provides academic achievement and financial need scholarships. 

Glenn C. Rodgers Scholarship Fund was established in 1998 by the estate of Mabel Rodgers in honor of her stepson Glenn, PHM ‘51. The fund provides achievement and financial need scholarships for fourth or fifth year students with residence preference from Northwestern Pennsylvania.

Marvin Samson Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 1998 by Marvin Samson, a friend of the School, to provide academic achievement and financial need scholarships. 

Joseph B. Sprowls Endowment Fund was established in 1988 by the Pharmacy Alumni

Association in memory of Joseph B. Sprowls, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Pharmacy from 1950-67.  It provides for an annual lecture by an outstanding individual who has achieved recognition in pharmacy.

Awards:

The following awards are given annually to students or alumni in recognition of their accomplishments. Some awards require Association approval and voting by Board Members.  

The Certificate of Honor is given to outstanding alumni in recognition of their stellar accomplishments. It is given at the Founder’s Dinner, the annual University-wise recognition dinner honoring outstanding alumni, friends and Silver and Gold Anniversary Classes.

William H. Briner Memorial Award Fund was established in 2000 by Jayne Haines, PHM ’54, and Elizabeth Briner in memory of Captain William H. Briner, PHM ’54, to provide an award to an outstanding student.

Samuel Elkin Memorial Award Fund was established in 1995 by Selma Elkin in memory of Samuel Elkin, PHM ’42, to provide an annual award to fourth-year students in recognition of academic excellence.

The Dr. Theodore S. Kallelis Memorial Award Fund was established in 2002 by Sophie Kalellis in memory of Theodore Kallelis, PHM ’54.  It recognizes and rewards academic excellence in an outstanding graduate student.

Mollie Nichols Ostrow Memorial Fund was established in 1977 by Mr. Jacob Ostrow PHM ’49, and his wife, and others in memory of Mollie Nichols Ostrow.  It recognizes and rewards academic excellence in an outstanding graduating female.

Isadore Ostrum Fund was established in 1985 by the daughters of Isadore Ostrum, PHM ’22.  This award recognizes and rewards academic excellence in an outstanding graduating senior.

The Distinguished Pharmacist Practitioner Award was established in 2005, and is an annual recognition alumni award for outstanding contributions in community/hospital/clinical pharmacy.  

The Student Health Care Professional Award was established in 2005, and is given to a third-year student in recognition of academic achievements and leadership qualities.
