A Message from the Dean

Dr Doukas picture The faculty and staff of Temple University School of Pharmacy, as well as the wider University community, welcome your interest in our School. Since 1901 we have enabled students of different backgrounds to develop their intellectual potential in a program leading to the professional degree in Pharmacy. The School has consistently contributed to the evolution of the profession and, in keeping with Temple’s Conwellian tradition, provides a gateway to excellent education.

The pharmacy profession has a leading role in current health care reforms. As health practitioners, pharmacists directly improve a patient’s quality of life through therapeutic intervention.

Our innovative curriculum trains today’s students to use pharmaceuticals in the treatment of health-related problems. Our graduates inform the public and other health care professionals about the constantly evolving role of pharmaceuticals and their appropriate use in patient care.

Temple’s Doctor of Pharmacy program prepares candidates to provide proper and ethical pharmaceutical care services. Pharm. D. graduates have exciting professional opportunities in community pharmacy, managed care organizations, hospital pharmacy, clinical research, the pharmaceutical industry, and government. As the profession creates a greater variety of career options, our School provides a more comprehensive array of academic opportunities.

Health care and educational systems are perhaps the best expressions of social organization. As you contemplate the practice of a profession, I ask that you remain cognizant of a collective human interdependence. Recognize that your progress depends upon a broader social context, that while you contribute to your own well being, you also contribute to a larger social environment. Your education, in addition to giving you intellectual satisfaction, can provide a solid economic future. Always hold on to your capacity for imagination and desire for inquiry. Exercise your capacity for critical thinking. Capture your own thoughts and feelings, and then use your educational experience to crystallize them.

Thank you for considering Temple University School of Pharmacy. The faculty and staff welcome your association with our program.

Best Wishes,
     Peter H. Doukas, Ph.D., Dean
