Temple’s Responsibilities

School District of Philadelphia CEO Paul Vallas greets then-Temple President, Dr.

David Adamany, after speaking to Partnership teachers in Ritter Hall.

The Temple Partnership Schools are under the direct leadership of Temple University, while remaining part of the School District of Philadelphia. Temple determines the Partnership Schools’ reform strategy, educational program and professional development activities. The University also manages principal selection and evaluation and exercises budget approval.

The Partnership Schools receive standard Philadelphia school budgets and resources, and participate in all standardized testing required by the District and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The School district is responsible for maintaining and upgrading the school buildings and for providing for safety and security. Partnership School staffs are employees of the School District of Philadelphia.

Financially, the Partnership receives an extra allocation of $450 for each student from the School District Of Philadelphia. So that it can apply all of these funds to school services, Temple provides approximately $500,000 per year in in-kind support for basic administration. Temple also seeks philanthropic support for the Partnership Schools, and has raised more than $1 million to date from individuals, corporate, state and federal sources.
