Ferguson and Meade Schools Improve Performance, Move to EMO Region
Citing improved student achievement at Ferguson and Meade Schools, the School District of Philadelphia has moved the schools to the EMO Region from the CEO's Region. Temple had recommended this change to the School District so that all four Partnership Schools would be in the same region. In announcing the change, School District Chief Academic Officer Gregory Thornton said his decision to accept Temple's recommendation was "predicated on improved PSSA results" at the schools, and added, "I applaud their progress."
The CEO's Region was established in 2005 for schools where student achievement was not improving. There have been steady improvements in math and reading proficiency at Meade and Ferguson each of the last two years. It should be noted that Temple prefers to have all four Partnership Schools in the EMO Region so they can benefit from the special programs that region provides for schools managed by outside providers.
