Flow Cytometry - Instrumentation

BD FACSCalibur

A dual-laser benchtop flow cytometer that is capable of measuring up to six parameters: forward scatter (FSC), side scatter (SSC), and four fluorescence parameters. It also measures pulse area and width for doublet discrimination. This instrument can be equipped with an automatic sampling device which allows for high-speed automatic analysis of up to 96 samples loaded in a 96-well plate.

BD FACSAria

A benchtop high-speed sorter with a fixed-alignment cuvette flow cell and three air-cooled lasers at 488-nm, 633-nm, and 407-nm wavelengths. This instrument is equipped with a cloning device which allows for the deposition of precise numbers of cells in multi-well plates. The instrument is also equipped with two- and four-way bulk sorting devices for a variety of tube sizes; cells can be sorted into water-cooled tube holders. Sample temperature is also controlled. Digital electronics facilitate acquisition rates of up to 70,000 events/second. The collection optics are expandable for analysis of up to 15 parameters; the current configuration allows measurement of 12 parameters simultaneously.
