1.
How do I get my hazardous (chemical or radioactive)
waste removed? (4/4/00 KS)
- For chemical waste you can fax a waste removal request form to us or
email us via our web page email form. Please do not request
a chemical waste pickup by phone. We need it in writing.
- For radioactive waste you can call our hot-line (at 2-2400) and leave
a message or you can fax or email a request to us.
- Find THE FORMS HERE.
- Note: Chemical and radioactive wastes are picked up separately. DO NOT
MIX THEM.
2. What kind of training is required for radioactive material users? (4/5/00
KS)
There are 2 training's required, an initial training for all new (at Temple)
users and an annual refresher training for active users.
- The initial training has 2 parts. The morning part is 3 hours long and
is for people who have never had training about safe
use of radioactive material (RAM). By training we mean official classroom
training, not what you just happened to learn while working in a lab somewhere. If
you have had this type of training then you can get permission to skip the morning session.
The afternoon part is also 3 hours long and is for all RAM users who are new
to Temple. This part describes policies & procedures
that may be unique to Temple University.
- The annual refresher training is a review of current radiation safety
policies & procedures and also an update on changes to
policies & procedures made because of changes in state & federal
regulations.
- A new RAM user is not permitted to work without first being trained.
Since initial training is only given every 2 months, as a temporary
measure, a new person may be given sufficient safety training
by the authorized user under whose license he/she works so that this new person
may work safely under close supervision. Of course, the new person must attend
the next scheduled initial training.
