BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES

 

Dr. Kimetta R. Hairston

Dr. Kimetta R. Hairston is an Assistant Professor of Education at the Penn State University, Harrisburg. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii at Manao; with a focus on qualitative research design, multicultural education, and diversity and disability studies. In addition to her professorship, she conducts Cultural Awareness and Diversity Training for various organizations across the states of Pennsylvania, Hawaii, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Her most current co-authored book is They Followed the Trade Winds – African-American Experiences in Hawaii, and two entries (Dehumanization and Alienation) in the Encyclopedia of Race and Crime. She has also published in other educational research journals on topics that include: Critical Race Theory in Education, the Dehumanization of African American Females, Cultural Sensitivity and Diversity in Education, Critical Multiculturalism, and the Four Stage of Diversity.

 

Dr. Shanetia P. Clark

Dr. Shanetia P. Clark, is an Assistant Professor of Education.  She teaches courses in secondary English education and in literacy education. Also, she serves as the Director of the Capital Area Writing Project, a local site of the National Writing Project.  Her research focuses on the integration of writing, in its various forms, across the curriculum.

 

James A. Felton

James A. Felton is the Director of Multicultural Affairs at Lebanon Valley College. Previously, Mr. Felton was the Director of Multicultural Affairs at Elizabethtown College. He has held administrative and adjunct instructor positions at The Office of the Chancellor for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, Harrisburg Area Community College, and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Mr. Felton earned his B.A. degree in Psychology and his M.S. degree in Educational Administration from McDaniel College in Westminster, MD. He also completed coursework in the Administration and Leadership Studies program at Indiana University Pennsylvania in Indiana, PA.

 

Jo Ann Jankoski, Ed.D, LCSW, MS
Dr. Jo Ann Jankoski  holds a doctorate from Duquesne University in Counselor Education and Supervision and two masters degrees—an M.S.W. from West Virginia University and an M.S. in Community Agency Counseling from California University of Pennsylvania. Currently, she is Assistant Professor in the Human Development and Family Studies program at Penn State - The Eberly Campus. Dr. Jankoski is Assistant Professor Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State - The Eberly Campus. Dr. Jo's research interest includes vicarious trauma, poverty, diversity and rural mental health.

 

Kathleen Kaminski, Ph.D.

Dr. Kaminski is the Director of Education Programs and an Associate Professor of Education at Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. Kathleen has been a public school educator, coach, and first level administrator for over 30 years in a variety of school districts in Pennsylvania.

McDaniel College, M.Ed., Health and Physical Education

Virginia Lea

Dr. Virginia Lea is Associate Professor of Education at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA. Dr. Lea received her Ph. D. in Education, Social & Cultural Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.

  

Kristine S. Lewis, Ph.D.

Kristine Lewis, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Multicultural and Urban Education in the School of Education at Drexel University. She teaches courses on multicultural education, higher education, educational policy, and qualitative research methods.  Her research interests include race, ethnicity, and education; student development and leadership; and, culture, care, and community in education.  She is a contributing faculty member to Drexel’s Multicultural Collaborative and Eastern Regional Representative for PA-NAME.

 

Sra. Joyce M.  Ramos Gomez de Avila

Joyce is President of Creating and Facilitating Equality. She facilitates workshops and Seminars on the many issues of Diversity.  As a Keynote speaker or just a climate consultant, Sra. Avila advocates for Social Justice. With a MA in Bilingual/Bi-Cultural Education, Joyce is an adjunct professor for Keystone College, Penn State Hazelton, and Wilkes University. 

  

Rosalie Rodriguez

Rosalie Rodriguez is the Special Assistant to the President for Diversity and Inclusion at Juniata College. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Juniata in 2001 and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree from The Penn State University. Ms. Rodriguez believes strongly in promoting an environment not of mere tolerance, but of understanding and inclusion.

 

 Carol Watson

Carol Watson earned her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction at Virginia Tech and is currently an Assistant Professor of Education at Kutztown University. She has 23 years of experience teaching diverse populations in public schools across 4 states and multiple grade levels. She teaches courses in the Elementary Education Department on social studies instruction, teaching diverse populations, planning and designing effective instruction, and conducting and writing research.


The NAME Annual Conference


NAME hosts an exceptional national conference each year. People across the country and other countries attend to interact and exchange ideas, resources and strategies. The conference program features nationally known speakers and a broad variety of interactive workshops, symposia, and paper presentations on topics relevant to multicultural education, diversity, and equity.
