This course has two key goals: to introduce students to ancient thinking about race and ethnicity, and to consider ways in which ancient thinking remains current and influential today. We will proceed by considering examples from ancient Greece and Rome and from the modern world, focusing on test cases rather than trying to cover the huge topic of race in antiquity.
