Filmmaker Bio

Kjetil Andreas Knutsen
Kjetil Andreas Knutsen was born and raised in the small coastal town of Risør, Norway. As a young teenager his parents bought a HI 8 video camera and Andreas started immediately to play around with it. He teamed up with a friend from school and together they started to make short films, often comedy exploring pitch black humour. Years later at the age of 24, after surviving a compulsory year in the Norwegian army and a school semester in southern Spain where he delved into tourism studies, he found himself in Australia studying film and television at the Griffith Film School (formerly Queensland College of Art).

Writing and directing seemed to be Andreas' destiny, and as his ideas and scripts often were picked out to be class projects he got a lot of directing experience. The Pusher (2003) was his first short film about a man addicted to pushing buttons without knowing it himself. 48 Hour - The Documentary (2004) told the story of a group of young filmmakers entering a 48 hour Film Project. Who Turned Out the Lights? (2004) was an experimental film clip exploring the outer fringes of glorious life and horrible death. ...But a Giant Leap for Mr. Larkin (2005) was Andreas' graduation film and was about an old lonely man and his goldfish who both find a crack revealing the outer world.

Andreas graduated with a Bachelor of Film and Television Production in 2005. In his graduate film ...But a Giant Leap for Mr. Larkin he was lucky to work with one of Australia's most experienced actors, Charles 'Bud' Tingwell.
