Borguet is one of 21 research faculty from the College of Science and Technology, the College of Engineering and the School of Medicine who are participating in SURP, which aims to expose undergraduate students to research and assist them in getting a head start on a career in research. Through the program, the undergrads will spend the summer working with scientific research faculty on currently funded research projects, for which the students can earn up to a $4,000 stipend. The stipend is funded through an equal match between the College of Science and Technology and the researcher’s grant.

More than 270 students applied for the program, and some 150 interviewed with faculty for nearly 40 available positions during Match Day on March 31. Those students not selected by faculty gained valuable experience interacting with researchers and insight into the requirements of securing a research position.
