Publications

Harsh Grewal, professor of surgery and pediatrics at the School of Medicine, co-authored “Polymorphous hemangioendothelioma in a child with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)” in the March issue of Pediatric Blood and Cancer.

James Lammendola, instructor of legal studies at the Fox School of Business, published an article, "The Pennsylvania Real Estate Seller Disclosure Law" in the Pennsylvania Law Weekly, a supplement to the March 2008 Legal Intelligencer. The article was co-authored with Michael Valenza, assistant professor of legal studies, and discussed whether non-physical defects, both on and off site in residential transactions, are unrelated to title issues and need to be disclosed by a seller to the buyer.

Jin J. Luo, assistant professor and director of EmG/neuromuscular medicine in the departments of Neurology and Pharmacology at the School of Medicine, published “Isolated Head Drop Triggered by Neck Surgery Following Concomitant Chemoradiotherapy” in the March issue of the Journal of Clinical Neuromuscular Disease.

Thomas R. Klumpp, professor of medicine in the School of Medicine, co-authored “Transplantation and Cellular Engineering” for the June issue of Transfusion.

Grants

Hai-Lung Dai, dean of the College of Science and Technology, has received a grant from the Air Force Office for Scientific Research for a project titled “Structure and Spectroscopy of Buried Interfaces in Organic Thin Films and Colloids.”  The research aims to develop nonlinear optical approaches for characterizing the structure, bonding, and kinetic and dynamic processes occurring at the interfaces in colloids and organic thin films. The grant will pay $450,000 over three years. Dr. Dai is also funded by the National Science Foundation for a research project on vibrational spectroscopy of colloidal particles.

The Boyer College of Music and Dance’s Music Preparatory and Enrichment Program was announced as one of the winners of Philadelphia’s Cultural Fund grants. Music Prep, which provides music instruction for people of all ages, and gifted-musician programs for students in the Philadelphia School District, received the largest grant for a first-time winner in March.

Svetlana Kotochigova, research associate professor in the Department of Physics at the College of Science and Technology, received a grant from the Department of the Air Force, for the project “Precision Control of Ultracold Molecules Optical Lattices.” The $100,000 award is for the period March 1 to Nov. 30, 2008. Pending the availability of Federal funs, she may receive two more awards, of $100,000 each, for a period of a year.

 

Presentations

Norman Baglini, senior lecturer at the Fox School of Business,  Katherine Nelson, instructor at the Fox School of Business, and Donald Wargo, lecturer at the Fox School of Business, gave a  lecture on Ethics "Institutional Impediments to Ethics: Doing Real World Ethics Under Threat, Coercion and Risk," at Oxford University on March 26.

Bill Dunkelberg, professor of economics at the Fox School of Business, presented “Economic Outlook” on March 5, to The Philadelphia Council for Business Economics, which is a chapter of the National Association of Business Economics, at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.

Yong Bao, assistant professor of economics at the Fox School of Business, recently chaired a session, “Portfolio Selection,” and presented “Estimation Risk Adjusted Sharpe Ratio under a General Return Distribution” at the 2008 Midwest Finance Association Meeting in San Antonio, Texas.

James W. Hutchin, enterprise management consulting faculty, and T.L. Hill; faculty manager of the Enterprise Management Consulting Practice, both at the Fox School of Business, organized and led a panel on “strategic options” at the American Association for Managing General Agents’ University East Weekend on March 1, in Philadelphia.

Kim Cahill, director of the Center for Business and Education Research, and Nicole DeSilvis, adjunct professor of international business at the Fox School of Business, presented on the Fox School’s undergraduate international business capstone at NASBITE International's 21st annual conference in Washington, D.C. on Friday, March 7. Their presentation highlighted the curriculum development and outreach component of this innovative practicum.


T.L. Hill, Enterprise Management Consulting Practice director at the Fox School of Business, presented “Strategic Market Entry to the US” at the UK Trade and Investment conference on “Winning Business in North America,” held March 11, in Guildford, United Kingdom.
