“The system worked just as we expected it to. That’s good to know in case there is an emergency,” said Timothy O’Rourke, vice president for Computer and Information Services.
During the test, an e-mail was sent to more than 41,000 students and employees with Temple e-mail addresses. In addition, those who had signed up for additional alerts received a text message and a phone call.
As expected, the text messages and phone calls were received first, followed by e-mail messages. O’Rourke said the system response times were within acceptable parameters for the number of messages being sent.
“Our biggest concern right now is to get more people signed up for text messages and phone calls. Only about 25 percent of the university’s population have signed up for those additional alerts so far,” he said.
