| Temple University faculty, staff, students and trustees join me in expressing deep condolences to the Northern Illinois University community for the losses experienced Thursday during the terrible shooting incident on their campus. As a fellow member of the Mid-American Conference, we offer our heartfelt support during this difficult time. |

| We want to let the members of the Temple community know that we take the safety of our students and employees very seriously. Temple has an excellent Department of Campus Safety Services and we are constantly enhancing our safety procedures. For example, in recent months we have increased the levels of security in our buildings and instituted a new TU-Alert communications system that allows us to rapidly send messages across campus. |

We all play a part in keeping our community safe. In the event of an emergency or if you observe suspicious activity, please report it immediately to Campus Safety Services by calling Temple Police at (215) 204-1234.
