Theresa A. Powell, vice president for Student Affairs, recently received the Fred Turner Award for Outstanding Service to the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. The Fred Turner Award honors the contributions of NASPA members who serve in leading roles at the state, regional and national institutions. A member of NASPA’s board for more than a decade Powell has served in numerous executive positions including coordinator and national chairperson of the Women in Student Affairs Network.
The Division of University Communications was awarded five 2008 Accolades by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education Division II. The awards are: Advertising: Multimedia Packages (bronze, for its "T Means More" campaign), Visual Design in Print: Single-Page Publications (gold, for Alumni Communications' "Think Different" annual fund brochure), Newsletters: Electronic (silver, for Alumni Communications' "@ Temple" e-newsletter), Student Recruitment: Packages (silver, for Creative Services' "See For Yourself" campaign for Admissions), and Institutional Identity Programs (bronze, for Creative Services' Temple University Center City branding campaign).
Elizabeth S. Bolman, of the Tyler School of Art, was awarded the College Art Association/Heritage Preservation Award for Distinction in Scholarship and Conservation. Bolman was recognized for her work on the conservation of the wall paintings in the Red
Monastery, a late-antique basilica near Sohag, Egypt, which resulted in placement of the site on the World Monuments Fund endangered list.
Chris Pavlides, executive director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute at the Fox School of Business, was elected to chair the United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship’s 2008 Global Entrepreneurship Interest Group.
WRTI-FM, Temple University’s Public Radio Station, was honored for its 60 years on the air by the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia on Jan. 16, at its annual Sports Spectacular luncheon at the Bala Country Club.
