The United States Passport Services Office has announced, effective Feb. 1, 2008, the availability of a new “US Passport Card” (valid only for land and sea crossings between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean) and the implementation of new fees for both the “passport book” and the “passport card.”

For adults, beginning Feb. 1, the fee for first-time applicants for the traditional “passport book” will be US$100 (US$75 application fee and $25 execution fee); the fee for first-time applicants for the new “passport card” will be US$45 (US$20 application fee and $25 execution fee). Applicants also will have the option of applying for both a “passport book” and a “passport card” on the same application (for which only one execution fee will be assessed).

For minors (15 years old or under), beginning Feb. 1, the fee for applicants for the traditional “passport book” will be US$85 (US$60 application fee and $25 execution fee); the fee for the new “passport card” will be US$35 (US$10 application fee and $25 execution fee). Applicants also will have the option of applying for both a “passport book” and a “passport card” on the same application (for which only one execution fee will be assessed).
