Daniel Fesenmaier, professor at the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, received the Honorary Medal of Exceptional Scholarly Achievement at the Sixth Bi-Annual Conference on Consumer Psychology in Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure in Charleston, S.C., on June 4 and 5. He also served as the keynote speaker and spoke on “Searching for Experience: The Language of Tourism and Internet.”
Joe Goldblatt, senior lecturer at the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, received an award for research from the Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at Temple University. Goldblatt’s $2,000 award will be used to support his research at the Strehlow Research Centre in Alice Springs, Australia, during the summer of 2007. Goldblatt will examine the contemporary meaning of traditional aboriginal ceremonies and rituals and their cultural, economic, social, environmental, and political context.
Lolly Tai, senior associate dean of Ambler College, was presented the “President’s Award for Communication” by the American Society of Landscape Architects for her recently published book Designing Outdoor Environments for Children.
Richard Bernstein, an associate professor of economics at The Fox School of Business, was elected the best teacher of the year for 2007 by the school’s part-time M.B.A./M.S. student association. Bernstein was given the award on May 16 at the Temple University Center City campus.
Arvind Parkhe, a professor and department chair of general and strategic management at The Fox School of Business, served as the chair for the Temple University/Academy of International Business Best Paper Award Committee. The committee selected the winner for the 2007 academic year.
Deanna Geddes, an associate professor of human resource administration at The Fox School of Business, was elected as the chair of the conflict management division of the Academy of Management.
Stephen Fogg, an associate accounting professor at The Fox School of Business, served as a member of the Steering Committee of the Mid-Atlantic Region of the American Accounting Association.
The textbook “Anatomy for Litigators” by Sam Hodge, professor and chairman of the Legal Studies Department at The Fox School of Business, was chosen as an outstanding book of 2007 by the Association for Continuing Legal Education award. ACLEA is the international association for continuing legal education representing more than 300 organizations throughout the world that provide legal education to lawyers.
Gina D’Annunzio has been appointed director of Student Activities for the Division of Student Affairs.
D’Annunzio, who had served as the interim director for Student Activities, earned a bachelor's of arts in anthropology from Vanderbilt University and a master of education in sports and recreation administration from Temple University.
The Athletic Marketing Department earned a first-place award in the category of “Best Single Game Attendance Promotion for Men’s Basketball.” The award was given by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators at its 2007 NACMA Convention held this past weekend in Orlando, Fla. Temple won the award for its promotion of “Hooter the Owl’s
Birthday,” which was celebrated at the Temple Men’s Basketball game versus Massachusetts on Feb. 11 at the Liacouras Center.
John Daly, dean of the School of Medicine, has been elected to the Colon Cancer Alliance board of directors. During his career, Daly
has been involved with a variety of organizations including the American
Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, the American Cancer Society and the
American Surgical Society.
Ellen B. Geller, scientific coordinator for the Center for Substance Abuse Research, was presented the 2007 College on Problems of Drug Dependence Distinguished Service Award for her sustained contributions to the college during the more than 20 years of her association with CPDD.
Trustee Bob Rovner was honored June 6 with the "Spirit of
Life" Award by the City of Hope, a biomedical research, treatment and educational institution dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Cristian Gutierrez, associate professor of mathematics in the College of Science and Technology, has been appointed a member of the National Academy of Sciences of Argentina. According to the Academy, “This title constitutes an honor which is conferred on those who have dedicated, with relevant merits, to the cultivation and development of the Exact and Natural Sciences.” |
