Helping to keep Philadelphia and Temple University at the forefront of pharmaceutical and biotechnology development, Pennsylvania House of Representatives Speaker Emeritus John M. Perzel (left) and House Republican Appropriations Chairman Mario J. Civera Jr. (center) assist Antonio Giordano, director of the Sbarro Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine, in dedicating the new Translational Drug Development and Molecular Biotechnology Laboratory on the fourth floor of the Biology Life Sciences Building.

The state-of-the-art facility was made possible through state funding support from Perzel to the Sbarro Health Research Organization.

“Since Speaker Perzel, and now Chairman Civera, began to learn about the Sbarro Health Research Organization, our productivity and our goal to produce technology to benefit humans has increased tremendously over the past three years,” said Giordano, who also is director of the Center for Biotechnology in the College of Science and Technology.

“This facility would not have been possible without their support.”

Looking on is CST Dean Hai-Lung Dai.
