When Ainsley Carry joins Temple’s Division of Student Affairs in July, his co-workers will offer him a warm welcome … back, that is.

Carry, who left the university in November to take a position at the University of Florida, will return to the Division of Student Affairs as the new associate vice president and dean of students.

"We are very excited about Dr. Carry’s return to Temple University,” said Theresa A. Powell, vice president for student affairs. “Carry is an extremely talented leader whose primary concern is the well being of our students. His enthusiasm, energy and knowledge of our campus community make him an asset to the Division of Student Affairs. We are all greatly anticipating his return.”

While with the University of Florida, which is his alma mater, Carry served as the assistant vice president for student affairs. His primary duties included divisionwide strategic planning, staff development, student affairs assessment and honors and awards.

Powell is not the only one who is excited. Carry, who formerly was the dean of students and associate vice president for Student Affairs, said that he looks forward to coming back to Temple and Philadelphia’s fast-paced urban atmosphere.

“I am an eager to return to campus and begin working closely with the staff in Student Affairs on planning and implementation of various programs,” said Carry, who will return in time to assist with planning for the fall’s Convocation and Welcome Week.

Carry, who is originally from Florida, said that the decision to return was one he and his family took a lot of time to consider. Although their relocation to Florida put them closer to relatives, he and his wife, Jessica, who hails from Georgia, are ready to return to professional and personal bonds they built while in Philadelphia, Carry said.

Carry, his wife and their 2-month-old daughter, Aliyah, are preparing to return to the city this summer.

A former associate dean of students at the University of Arkansas, Carry also served as the director of multicultural affairs at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he also coordinated instruction programs for SMU's Learning Enhancement Center.
An active scholar and educator, he was an adjunct faculty member at both the University of Arkansas and John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark.

He received his bachelor's of science in food and resource economics, his master's of science in counselor education and his doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Florida.
