Inquisitive students become the groundbreaking scholars that push intellectual research into the future.

On Thursday, April 5, Temple’s young scholars and artists will present original research and creative work during the annual Temple Undergraduate Research Forum and Creative Work Symposium (TURF-CreWS).

TURF-CreWS was created by African-American Studies Professor Sonja Peterson-Lewis in 1994 in order to provide a forum for a group of undergraduate researchers from her department.

When: Thursday, April 5, 8:15 a.m.–
4 p.m.

Where: Howard Gittis Student Center, room 200 A-C, and Rock Hall.
A concert and closing session will be held at 7 p.m. in Rock Hall.

Over the years, the program has expanded into a campuswide event that highlights undergraduate research and creative work from all schools, colleges, departments and programs across the university.

Last year, more than 70 students present their original work during the daylong conference, which seeks to encourage undergraduate students to address significant social issues through research and the collection of original data.

A glimpse of undergrads’ best work

Each of the five sessions below includes several short presentations — ranging from “A novel method for early detection of tumors” (poster) to “Laptop effectiveness for homeless street outreach programs” (session 5) to original arrangements of jazz pieces (concert and closing session).
