Interested in Joining NABA?
The National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. has been the leader in expanding the influence of minority professionals in the fields of accounting and finance. NABA's main objectives are to promote and develop the professional skills of our members; to encourage and assist minority students in entering the accounting profession; to provide opportunities for members to fulfill their civic responsibility; to ensure long-term financial stability and provide adequate resources to implement chapter, regional, and national programs; and to represent the interests of current and prospective minority accounting professionals.
Beyond these objectives, NABA works actively with accounting firms, corporations, schools and colleges in the placement of minority candidates for positions in the field of accounting and finance, and provide technical seminars for those considering an accounting career.
NABA was established in 1969 by a group of nine African American accountants who were concerned about the limited number of minorities in the field of accounting, particularly the limited number of certified public accountants (CPAs). At the time of inception, there were an estimated 10,000 African Americans in the accounting profession, of which only 100 were CPAs. Today, through the Association's efforts, as well as other interested groups, over 100,000 African Americans participate in the field of accounting, of which, over 5,000 are CPA's.
