ARCHIVES ON ANALYTICAL MUSIC THERAPY
|
The Archives on Analytical Music Therapy consists
of all the personal/clinical diaries of Mary Priestley, founder
of the method, plus all extant audiotapes of her clinical work with
approximately 75 individuals. The diaries and tapes cover the period
of 1971-1990. Also included are all of her known published writings,
and pertinent writings by other proponents of the method. A complete
inventory is provided below.
The purpose of the archive is twofold: to insure the legacy of
Mary Priestley and her original method of Analytical Music Therapy,
and to stimulate proponents of her method to make further developments
in theory, research and practice. To accomplish this, the library
has begun the process of: 1) preserving the originals of all materials
contributed to the archive, while also making copies of them in
other formats that will not decay; 2) cataloging the entire contents
of the archive, using standard library systems; 3) making materials
from the archives available to all interested parties, as appropriate
to the nature of the materials and their intended use, and to the
extent possible within financial constraints; and 4) continually
adding relevant materials to the archive that will serve its purposes.
These materials may be housed in the archives or in the circulating
collection of the library. Materials in the archives may be accessed
on a special website to be established, or they will be available
only for use in the library; materials in the circulating collection
may be borrowed, or made available through legal photocopy. Altogether
then, the GIM holdings at Paley consists of:
Accessibility to the archive varies according to the user and how
the material has been made available by the library. Specifically:
- All faculty and students of Temple University (including all
disciplines and departments) have full library privileges and
complete access to the archive. They will be able to borrow circulating
books and materials, use all materials in the archives, request
legal photocopies of materials that do not leave the library,
and gain complete access to the website.
- All faculty and students from the host of universities belonging
to two library consortiums (PALCI and RLIN) will have the same
library privileges and access as those cited above for Temple
faculty and students.
- Individuals may go to any library near them and, through interlibrary
loan, borrow all circulating books and materials from Paley. Upon
request, they may also obtain legal photocopies of noncirculating
materials in Paley.
- All individuals will have full access to the website to be developed.
- Any individual who wishes to use the materials at Paley library
may sign in at the main entrance to the library, present a photo
ID of any kind, and be admitted to the archive, any weekday, 9-5.
To contribute relevant materials to the archive, please send the
materials to Dr. Kenneth Bruscia, Boyer College of Music 012-00,
Temple University, 2001 North 13th St. Philadelphia PA 19122. The
materials must be accompanied by a cover letter which gives a complete
list of the materials, including title(s) and brief description(s),
along with the following statements:
- I hereby confirm that I have full ownership of the materials
listed, and have legal authority to donate originals or copies of
them to Temple University's Paley Library.
- I hereby retain (or relinquish toTemple) copyright ownership of
these materials.
- I hereby convey these materials to Temple's library as an unrestricted
gift to its GIM archive or circulating collection.

conferral with me.
- Printed name and signature of donor, and date of donation.
