| Johnny Brenda's, located at the corner of Frankford and Girard avenues, has become a local hotspot for some of the newer residents. Originally opened in 1967, the bar, restaurant and music venue was renovated by owners Paul Kimport and William Reed. While the picture to the left shows the classic appeal, the pictures to the right depict some of the more modern architecture that gives Johnny Brenda's a cutting-edge look. |
 |
Kema Fortunato, a Johnny Brenda's employee, said the main reason people gather there is because of the local food and beer that is offered.
A former Fishtown resident, Fortunato recently moved to neighboring Northern Liberties due to increasing rental prices.
|
All of the beer that is offered at Johnny Brenda's is brewed within an 80-mile radius of Fishtown, giving it the signature local
touch.

In September 2006, after a year of battling with the city's zoning board, Johnny Brenda's debuted its second-floor music venue with a third-floor balcony that can hold up to 300 people. The stage was built from the third floor that was cut out to create the hand-carved balcony. Below, is another bar that is typically used on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, which are the usual nights for perfomances. |
