E3 Center Student Bios

Luis Mercado:

I am 18 years old and I am from the upper Kensington section of Philadelphia. Currently, I am a student at the E3 center on Girard and Germantown. I hope to get my GED so that I can work at Temple Hospital. In my spare time, I take care of my two nephews and I also like to swim.

Christian:

I think I have what it takes to become a video production executive director someday. I have a good work ethic. I come from Northeast Philadelphia in the Frankford/Wissinoming section. I found the video production program at the E3 center through re-integration. If it wasn’t for this program, I would not have a day job.

Jaqwuan Otey:

I am 15 years old. I am here at the E3 center for a video production class. I’m originally from Frankford, but for right now I live in Melrose Park Gardens in Olney. I love to play football. In fact, I started playing football before I could even spell it. I hope someday to make it to the NFL; that’s one of my main goals in life.

Armond Pratt:

I live in the Frankford/Wissinoming section of Philadelphia. I enjoy playing basketball, football and working. I’m very humble and funny, but when it is time to work I’m game. I take video production at E3 because someday I hope to become a music video producer.

Serge Torres:

I grew up in North Philadelphia in a neighborhood called Hunting Park. To other people, it is one of the grimiest and dirtiest neighborhoods in North Philly. It wasn’t easy growing up there, being only one of three Puerto Ricans who lived there. But I learned to get along with all of the people around my hood.

When I turned 11 years old, that is when my life started to change. I started hustling all night long. Sometimes, I would go to school and come out after half a day and go right on the block because my old heads never taught me any differently.

My first time getting locked up was at age 11 and every year after that until the age of 18. By that time I already had a 4-year-old daughter. I was on a bad path; when my daughter was born I spent the next two and a half years in lock up.

All of that time spent away from home and from her made me realize that I had to grow up. One good thing that came out of all of this is that I found my new hobby: video production. I’m glad that I have learned the lessons and now I take everything serious because life is no joke and I have something to look forward to.
