One of the many reasons the MLA Program is so attractive is its interdisciplinary flexibility in allowing students to develop their own intellectual pathways. The MLA Program invites students to meet with Dr. Michael Szekely, Assistant Director and Advisor in the MLA Program, who can assist in helping students explore their options and find coherence in their academic direction.
At any point in their MLA career, students may consult with the Assistant Director with respect to courses to be chosen from the MLA Program itself or from CLA graduate offerings that meet their needs/interests. The latter might be drawn from academic departments as varied as Art History, History, English, Anthropology, Philosophy, Sociology, Religion, Political Science, African American Studies, and Geography and Urban Studies.
"The MLA program is wonderful because it allows you to engage in courses that interest you as an individual. As a finance person, I find the creative aspect of the program to be a nice change from my daily activities as it gives me an opportunity to 'round out' my interests and my education. For me, to be able to discuss literature and philosophy with true scholars is a priceless experience and I feel very fortunate to be a student in the MLA program." -Sue Alcedo, Manager of Financial Operations
