How to Apply:

You can checkthe status of your application by visiting https://app.applyyourself.com/?id=templegrad. If you submitted a paper application and have been informed of a PIN and Password in the AY system by the program to which you applied, you may also visit https://app.applyyourself.com/?id=templegrad for a status update.
Progress of your application can be tracked via Owlnet at http://owlnet.temple.edu/, using the nine digit TUid number issued you once you have submitted your application and the PIN number you received in the mail. You will need your ID number and PIN in order to log onto the system.
Coursework Required for Admission Consideration:
All applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. While a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA is required for admission to graduate study at Temple University, applicants to the MLA Program are considered on an individual basis and may be exempted from this requirement.
Transfer of Credit:
Students are expected to complete all of the MLA course requirements at Temple. However, up to six hours of graduate credits may be transferred from another institution with the approval of the MLA Advisory Committee and the Dean of the Graduate School. The credits must be equivalent to coursework offered at Temple, and the grade must be a “B” or better. The MLA Admissions Committee makes recommendations on transfer credits to the Director of the MLA Program.
In order for graduate courses taken at Temple on a non-matriculating basis to count toward the degree, the earned grades must be “B” or better. Up to nine hours of graduate study taken at Temple prior to admission may be credited toward the degree with the approval of the MLA Advisory Committee and the Dean of the Graduate School.
Application Materials:
The MLA Program requires a completed application form, a statement of goals, and a certified copy of official academic records from every college and university attended, including Temple University.
Standardized Test Scores:
The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Miller’s Analogy Test (MAT) is encouraged but not required. Any student admitted with a TOEFL score below 79 on the internet-based, 550 on the paper-based, or 213 on the computer-based examination must pass an English skills course or successfully pass the SPEAK test during the first semester of enrollment at Temple University.
Letters of Reference:
Letters of reference are recommended although not required.
Resume:
A resume is required.
Statement of Goals:
The Statement of Goals should be approximately 500 to 1,000 words and should include the following elements: your interest in the MLA Program, your research goals, your future career goals, and your academic and research achievements.
Want to Try a Course or Two Before Submitting Your Application?
It's easy. Contact Professor Drake at the email address below, let her know what your academic interests are and what course or courses seem of interest to you, and she can guide you through the registration process. Up to three courses taken as a non-matriculating student may be applied toward your MLA degree.
Questions:
Please contact the Director of the Program, Jayne Drake, for advice concerning your specific qualifications and plans.

"The M.L.A. program is exciting because it allows you to choose an area of interest and challenges you to pursue your interest within an interdisciplinary framework of courses. I chose to focus on photography, and I studied, researched, and wrote about its history and influence on society. I also examined photography as a pure art form and mass media tool. I’m not aware of any Masters program that would have allowed me the freedom to pursue this interest." -Barbara Dolhansky, University Administrator, Computer Services
