Core Facilities

Histology Core Facility

The Histology Core Facility (HCF) provides high quality histological services through its core facility located within the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Temple University School of Medicine.  The HCF was established in 1999 under the directorship of Fayez F. Safadi, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology.  The HCF provides histological services for investigators across all Temple University campuses, including the main campus and the health science campus.  The facility also is available to other institutions in the area such as University of Pennsylvania, Crozer Chester Hospital and pharmaceutical companies.  The facility provides services for researchers for both human and animal tissues.

 

Available services include:

  • Processing and sectioning of paraffin-embedded specimens
  • Processing and sectioning of frozen tissues (in OCT)
  • Processing and sectioning of plastic MMA
  • Skeletal preparation and staining of cartilage and bone
  • Routine and special stains
  • Immunohistochemical / immunofluorescence staining
  • Antibody titration/optimization
  • Consultation and Staining for immunohistochemistry
  • Digitization of data
  • Embedding for EM, thin sectioning and staining for colloidal gold stain
  • EM analysis by technician
  • Access to EM facility
  • Access to imaging facility
  • Histomorphometry
  • Arrangement for Micro-CT analysis
  • Training investigators and staff
  • Consultation with Histology personnel
  • Normal, benign, diseased, and malignant tissues from surgeries and biopsies
  • Normal adjacent tissue from human or animals
  • Protocol development for tissue collection and processing
  • Quality control reviews on human and animal tissue samples are conducted
