“This recognition is an affirmation of Temple’s national leadership in the diagnosis, treatment and continued research in the specialty field of respiratory disorders,” said Gerard J. Criner, MD, Director of the Division of Pulmonology and Critical Care Medicine. “Indeed, Temple’s Lung Center continues to pioneer and provide the most advanced treatments to patients with the most challenging respiratory disorders and pulmonary diseases, such as pulmonary fibrosis, hypertension, respiratory failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and mechanical ventilation.
“Among all programs cited in the latest U.S. News & World Report survey, Temple doctors treat the largest volume of cases of any academic medical center in the region,” noted Robert Pezzoli, President and Chief Operating Officer of Temple University Health System. “Further, our survival was 19% better than predicted based on case-mix – making it the best of any academic medical center in the Mid-Atlantic region.”
The Temple Lung Center uses a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to treat all forms of respiratory disorders – from mild to the most severe forms of breathing conditions. It is nationally renown for its superior clinical outcomes, especially in the specialized areas of mechanical ventilation, pulmonary fibrosis, COPD and respiratory failure.
